2008 Land Rover Defender 90 XS – Boost Alloy Wheels & Tyres for Sale
This is a complete vehicle, a 2008 Defender 90 XS. The XS is the higher spec trim, and 2008 puts it in the early Puma years, the first of the Ford transit engined Defenders. It comes with Boost alloy wheels and tyres already fitted.
Why 2008 matters. The Puma Defender ran from 2007 to 2016. The 2008 truck is one of the first, which means the 2.4 litre engine and the six speed gearbox. It also has the later dash, the different heater and the updated interior. Some owners prefer the early Puma, and the 2008 trucks have a following. Check the service history, because the Puma engine has its own known issues.
What to look at on a 2008 Puma. The 2.4 Puma engine is generally strong, but it has a few faults worth knowing. The injector seals can leak, the EGR valve clogs, and the turbo actuator can fail. The clutch and the dual mass flywheel are known weak points on these, and a replacement is not cheap. Check for a rattle on start up and a judder pulling away. The gearbox is a six speed and it’s tough, but the transfer box input gear wears like any Defender. The chassis and bulkhead still rot, so check them the same way you would on any Defender.
The XS trim. The XS gets you air conditioning, heated seats, electric windows and alloy wheels as standard. It’s the one most buyers want, and it holds its value better than a base model. Check everything works, because the electrics and the air con can be expensive to fix.
Boost alloy wheels and tyres. Boost alloys are a common upgrade and they suit the Defender. Check the condition of the wheels for kerb damage and corrosion, and check the tyres for even wear and the date codes. Uneven wear on a Defender usually points to the swivel housings or the tracking.
A few things to check before you buy:
-
Service history. Full and stamped is worth more. Look for the cambelt or chain work if applicable, and the clutch.
-
Mileage. Check it against the MOT history, which is public and free.
-
Chassis and bulkhead. Get underneath it or have someone look. This is the biggest thing on any Defender.
-
Engine. Check for smoke, a rattle on start up and any warning lights.
-
Clutch and flywheel. Ask if they’ve been done, and when.
-
Electrics. Windows, air con, heated seats, central locking. Check all of them.
-
Wheels and tyres. Condition and matching brand.
-
V5. Check the details match the vehicle.
One honest note. A 2008 Defender is now around seventeen years old. Even a good one needs work. The Puma is more comfortable and faster than the earlier trucks, but it’s also more complex, and repairs cost more. If you want simple, buy a Td5. If you want the later truck, budget for the maintenance that comes with it.

“The timing chain job on these engines isn’t cheap, so I wanted genuine parts only. This kit arrived complete — chain, tensioner, guides, gaskets all OEM and correctly boxed. My specialist confirmed everything was genuine before fitting. The engine runs quietly and the job was done once, properly. Exactly what I paid for.”
